Goals Of The Sage Facial Program

The common goal of a surgical or non-surgical "face lift" is to lift-up the sagging tissues.  The basic surgical approach is to cut out the sagging tissues and sew the remaining tissues together to give a "lift-effect".  The non-surgical approach is to rejuvenate, tighten and tone underlying muscle and connective tissues that will produce a "natural lift-effect".  There are some cases in which facial tissues have deteriorated so badly that surgery may be necessary.  However, in most cases, natural non-invasive means should be tried first.

One of the problems with cutting out and pulling together weak flaccid tissues is that that weak muscle becomes stretched, thinner and often weaker, than before.  Unless muscle tone and vitality to those weak cells is restored, the underlying muscle structures may be more apt to sag than before.  This often requires another surgical procedure, leading to another and eventually leading to an artificially taught-mask-like appearance.  In some cases, excessive scar tissue may form, disfiguring the face.

However, when surgery is a necessity, the best approach in all pre-surgical facial procedures is to strengthen, tone and rejuvenate the cellular structures to an optimal level first.  This will reduce the post-surgical healing time and yield a better appearance than surgery alone.  An athlete in top condition will respond far better to general surgical procedures than someone else who is in a weakened state.  The same is true for facial tissues.  Candidates for facial surgery need to strengthen and rejuvenate their tissues prior to surgery for optimal results.  This is an application of complimentary medicine.

To successfully strengthen and tone the cellular composition of the facial tissues requires these primary holistic techniques:

  • Specific exercises targeting weakened facial muscles.  Two common problems that respond remarkably well are:

    • The small muscles underneath and surrounding the eyes responsible for causing bags, sags, crows feet, and a worn-out tired-looking face.
    • The neck and throat muscles, especially those responsible for the aging sag causing a "turkey-neck" appearance.

  • Stress modification exercises that reduce a strained, tired appearance and improve frown lines without Botox.
  • Eliminating toxic foods and substances that weaken cellular function and vitality.
  • Increasing the nutritional requirements necessary to optimize cellular function.
  • Attitudinal changes that specifically stimulate and vitalize the "smile" muscles that give the face an instant natural lift with a true buoyant inner feeling.
  • A twenty-minute brisk walking program with postural guidelines to maximize oxygenation to the lungs and bloodstream; and to simultaneously maximize a more youthful posture.
  • Easy, quick stretching exercises to minimize rounded, slumped shoulders and dowager's hump of the spine that gives one an aged appearance.
  • Teaching acupuncture point locations on the face and self-applications techniques to stimulate, to vitalize, and to maintain energy to improve weakened facial areas.
  • Skin rejuvenating and conditioning procedures.
  • In some cases, mild electrical stimulation and ultrasound modalities may be recommended.
